Simon Giffen’s my name; drawing stuff’s my game. I’m an illustrator and animator based in Toronto. I work primarily in digital media, specifically Photoshop, Manga Studio, Flash, and After Effects.

My sense of humour seeps into everything I do, as a result my illustrative work usually has a humorous bent. I try to approach every project in a way that people will find interesting or engaging, whether it’s an editorial illustration, comic, concept art, or animation.

When I’m not working you can usually find me playing video games (mostly RPGs), reading comics, or watching cartoons (sometimes all three at once if I’m feeling ambitious).

My Process

Most of my work is done in Photoshop. I start with a sketch that is either scanned in or drawn on the computer with a tablet. From there I ink over it with black lines on a separate layer to create the cleaner line art. After that I put layers and layers of colour and shading over each other until I reach the final result.
