Mystery Mongoose Page #3 Process

To make my comics I work in a program called Manga Studio, which is specifically designed for making comics. It has tools to create panel borders, speech balloons, as well as a variety of different brushes to draw with.

After writing the script I’ll usually start off with a really simple thumbnail drawing to figure out the composition of the scene.

From there I’ll create the panels and draw the rough figures in Manga Studio. I draw in a light blue to make it easier to tell the difference between the rough lines and final lines when I’m doing the inking.

At this stage I go over almost everything in the scene with a simple outline. Since Mystery Mongoose is a black and white comic it needs a second pass of flat blacks to make it more visually interesting.

Now all that's left to do is add the text.

And there you have it! A finished page of Mystery Mongoose!
